Now don't you just love scraps, personally we can never bare to throw any away! However in addition to those in our personal stash, Pretty Fabrics and Trims has been accumulating quite a few, so in fear of losing sight of each other across the cutting room, we've decided the time has come to put together some scrap bags. These are limited in number, however it is something that we shall repeat on a regular basis.
The bags will contain 25 pieces of Tilda fabric, each piece different to the next. They all measure 25cm long by 4-6cm wide (aprox) here's a sample of the contents of one of the bags.......
Whilst sorting we thought it would be fun to use some of the scraps in a little 'Make it' project for a scrappy applique, so here you go....
First off we selected 8 scraps to go with a piece of Stof Gingham in Silver Grey .
We then cut a 1" strip of each of the fabrics and randomly pinned the first strip to a piece of white cotton. (If you are intending using the applique on something that will get lots of wear, we would suggest using some sort of bonding fabric on the strips (such as Bondaweb) which will prevent excessive fraying.) Now machine the strip in place.
Repeat for all 8 strips.
Turn the fabric over and mark out the shape of your applique, we chose a simple heart.
Then cut out.
Finally pin and stitch your applique in place.
Here's what we made......
Sarah also recently used some of the scraps for a little patchwork project, which you can see below,
you can read more about how she made this HERE
So the BIG question is, what will you make with your scrap bag?
